SRK: MNIK is hatke

The promos of My Name is Khan are all over TV screens. Shah Rukh Khan tells us how MNIK has helped Kajol, Karan and him evolve as people, actors and filmmakers and how religion has never been an issue for him.

"My Name is Khan is very different from the movies Karan has made before, and yet, he has preserved the Karan Johar-ishness he is known for. Karan, Kajol and I are close friends. We understand each other without even saying anything. However, a lot of times, Kajol and I were surprised with the way Karan wanted to shoot a scene, as it was different from the way the three of us have worked before. This was one of the most beautiful surprises for me as an actor, as a friend, as a viewer and as a producer. I am an insider, who can also see Karan's films as an outsider, and I can say that he has evolved tremendously with Khan, which is hatke and a step forward for all of us," says Khan about Johar, adding delightedly, "The three are magicians, and I am sure the film will do very well."

MNIK deals with issues like discrimination against Muslims. So, has SRK ever felt he was treated differently because of his religion? "I am a Muslim, but I have never faced any difficulties. In this country and around the world, I have never had an issue. I have been blessed in life, and my religion has helped me. It may be an issue for other people in other countries, but not for me. The issue in MNIK is how people can find strength in love. It tells us that love is the way forward in life. More than Islam, MNIK is about humanity," clarifies Shah Rukh Khan.

Being SRK: The ultimate reality TV show

It's a job most Indians would die for — shadowing Shah Rukh Khan wherever he goes. For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living. "It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
