Shahrukh Khan Says Don’s Inherent Evilness is Enticing

He began his career playing negative, angst-ridden characters but, 20 years into his career, Shahrukh Khan says it's the "irredeemable" quality of playing a character like Don that excites him today. In an exclusive conversation with, Khan discussed how Don is a significant departure from the villainous characters that made him famous in films such as "Darr" and "Baazigar". He also offered his take on what makes Don the first Hindi film villain the audience truly roots for:"Earlier I did more psychopathic, sociopath roles. With Don, you're not supposed to like him, but you do. As an actor, it's so enticing, and I think it's that enticement which I wanted to play into. There's an ideology with Don that he's always in full control of his actions, and therefore there's a lot of distance in the way I play Don vs. the way I played 'I Love You K-K-K-Kiran' (referring to his trademark negative turn in Yash Cho…

Shah Rukh Khan in Malaysian jail

Here's how he and the cast avoided being hypnotised by prisoners during the shoot With long tresses, an overgrown stubble and a rugged yet cool demanour, Shah Rukh Khan looks every inch a don. The flaming orange overalls add to the mood, as he packs punches with prison inmates in a fearless, muddy look. And this is no ordinary prison; the scene Don 2 - The Chase was shot in a real prison in Malaysia!

Director Farhan Akhtar is still reeling from the "strange and eerie silence" of the jail. The highly anticipated film is the first one to be shot in Malacca prison, and a complete section of the prison block was made available for the shoot. About 700 prisoners were air-lifted and moved to another cell to accommodate the filming.

And the Don's junglee billi Roma - aka Priyanka Chopra in a cop's role - was anxious to "break the rules". One theory doing the rounds was that the prisoners could hypnotise people, hence the crew was told to av…

Bollywood's king amazed by ongoing adulation

Shah Rukh Khan's career spans some 70 films and 30 years of movie-making His name may not mean much in the West but Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan is quite possibly the most popular movie star in the world. With Bollywood cinema reaching an estimated three billion people his following far exceeds that of Hollywood's stars. But after nearly 30 years in the business - and more than 70 films under his belt - 46-year-old Khan remains unexpectedly shy and still can't quite fathom why legions of fans commonly refer to him as the King of Bollywood.
