Shahrukh Khan to ride Delhi Metro Express

After Delhi Metro, it's the turn of the high-speed Delhi Airport Metro Express to attract Bollywood. On Wednesday, the Airport Metro Express, run by the Reliance Infrastructure-led concessionaire, will be playing host to Bollywood biggie Shah Rukh Khan when he comes to Delhi for promoting his movie Ra.One on Wednesday. Later this month, the Airport Express will feature in yet another movie, say officials from the concessionaire. "The crew of Jannat 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, will also shoot on the Airport Metro line on October 28," added the official.

Interestingly, till now, Delhi Metro has been the preferred destination for movie-makers. However, an increasing ridership has meant that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been reticent about lending out space for such ventures in the recent past. Sources in the concessionaire admitted that Delhi Metro's reluctance has proved to be an opportunity for the Airport Metro Express.

Said the official, "We feel that interest has increased because the shooting can be done at swanky terminals and coaches, yet is quite economical when compared to metros of other foreign cities." Several of the movies released in the recent past centering on Delhi have had shots of the Delhi Metro. However, it will be for the first time that the R-Infra led Delhi Airport Metro Express will be making its debut on the silver screen.

Added Anil Gupta, president, R-Infra, "We are pleased that SRK chose Reliance Metro Airport Express for the promotional campaign for Ra.One. Our world class modern stations and hi-tech, super speed trains are the best locales for film shooting and promotion."

The Delhi Airport Metro Express has been aggressively promoting it's corridor since its launch in February this year. From starting feeder services to increasing frequency, the concessionaire has been wooing commuters. The promotion activity is expected to help generate more interest.

Added the official, "Round the clock CISF security, modern security equipment and CCTV camera surveillance ensures the highest level of security, a feature that is especially appreciated by film crews." The fact that the crew can check-in at the Metro station and finish the shoot, and thereafter go to the airport directly is an added attraction, say officials.

The promotion of Shah Rukh Khan's movie is to take place at the Shivaji Stadium station tomorrow, added officials of the Delhi Airport Metro Express.

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
