Anubhav Sinha: 'We have plans for Ra.One sequel'

Ra.One director Anubhav Sinha was among the stars who turned out for the film's London premiere yesterday.

Sinha said that he was "overwhelmed" by the reception to his film in London.

"I am loving it," he said. "I feel like a star."

With a budget of £50 million and using the latest technology, Ra.One has been billed as India's first sci-fi film.

Speaking about the use of special effects and 3D technology, Sinha explained: "This film lends itself to a 3D film and I'm very confident that people will like it in 3D.

"I think a lot of people will watch it in 2D first and then if they like it they will see it again in 3D. There are 3,800 special effects in the film. That's official."

Sinha told Digital Spy that while there were high expectations for the film, he could not say whether it would be a landmark picture for Indian cinema.

"Honestly it's too early to claim that this film will raise the bar and change the perception of Indian cinema," he said. "Some people have seen the film and are saying things like this and quoting a lot of numbers for the first week and the weekend.

"I'll first wait for the audience to like it. If they do, the numbers will come in, the film is good, the bar will be raised and I'll be happy and proud about it."

While there are rumours of a sequel being made, the director said that he is not ready to contemplate another film yet.

"I only finished this film 73 hours back.
We have had plans to make a sequel and when I gave this to Shah Rukh [Khan] 72 hours back I said, 'That's enough for now'.

"You follow this by drinking continuously. Single malt."

Speaking about his lead actor Khan, Sinha went on to say: "He is great! Fantastic. A wonderful friend and a very inspiring human being. I love the entire cast.

"I am indebted to them for life. I am here representing all of them. It's not me you're talking to. You're talking to all of them."

Sinha previously said he felt that Ra.One has the potential to be a "blockbuster".

Ra.One opened with the highest number of screens ever for a Bollywood film.

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
