Chaos mars Shahrukh show

Allegations of mismanagement took gloss off the first-ever live performance of 'Bollywood Badshaah' Shahrukh Khan in Dhaka.

The huge crowd that assembled at the Mirpur Army Stadium since Friday noon to watch the versatile actor of Hindi film entertain them 'for over 12 hours' was reportedly harassed by the heavy-handed volunteers.

The volunteers were at times rude and even shoved the crowed in between stands.

Fans of 'King Khan' queued for hours on end at the stadium gates as organiser, Antor Showbiz, was too slow to let them in.

Seating arrangements were simply in disarray. Spectators with the priciest tickets had no chairs and had to sit on the ground. Many scrambled for a seat.

The galleries were packed beyond capacity. Surprisingly, nearly 25,000 enthusiasts were presented with a five hour long concert that began at 6:20 pm, a good hour and a half behind schedule.

Outside, commuters on the busy Airport Road were stuck in traffic gridlock while ill-equipped police and organisers failed to take control.

Shahrukh reached the capital at 2:35 pm with his wife Gouri Khan, son Arian and daughter Sohana. The king went for rehearsals in the afternoon.

His associates including glamourous Mumbai actress Rani Mukharjee and actor Arjun Rampal reached Dhaka Thursday.

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
