SRK’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ smashes records world over

Once again Karan Johar, SRK, and Fox have recreated the magic at Box Office, as their latest offering 'My Name Is Khan' has smashed all previous records, nationally and internationally.

MNIK, on its first day, went on a record-smashing spree, not just in Bollywood but internationally also. MNIK became the first-ever Hindi movie to set the record of highest-ever collections shortly after its release.

Despite MNIK's limited release in Gujarat, Maharashtra and in some parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, film's worldwide collections were estimated at around 25 crores.

According to trade analysts' estimation, the film could have earned an additional 5-6 crores had it been normally released across India. The number is expected to grow from Saturday onwards though.

MNIK's worldwide box office collections
In UK, MNIK released on Thursday and earned a whooping amount of £123k from 89 sites. Previously, KANK had earned £98k in UK in a single day.

In Australia, film grossed around A$39K (US$34K) on Thursday and was ranked #11 in the market. On its opening day in New Zealand, MNIK bagged NZ$13,627 (US$ 9,727).

Due to MNIK's huge demand and buzz surrounding the film, it will be releasing soon in Jordan, Egypt, Oman, Syria and Lebanon.

Fans and Bollywood support MNIK
Throughout Friday, SRK's fans and his Bollywood fellows showed their support for MNIK via blogs, status updates, reviews and tweets.

'My Name Is Khan' was one of the most talked about and searched topics on Google for over five hours in India and the U.S.

Abhishek Bachchan wrote in his post, "Wishing @kjohar25 and @iamsrk and the entire team of MNIK all the best for the release. It's going to be memorable."

Karan Johar said on Friday that he is touched with all the support he has gotten so far for MNIK despite opposition from the Shiv Sena.

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
