Shah Rukh Khan MNIK fetches Rs 90 crore, crosses 3 Idiots in US, UK!!

Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer flick 'My Name Is Khan' which opened last Friday worldwide has fetched over Rs 90.2 crores from box office over the weekend, which is more than Aamir Khan's super hit flick '3 Idiots'.

Sources from the Fox Star say that Shah Rukh Khan starrer flick left far behind Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots' in the markets of US, UK and other overseas territories by creating a record for a single day collection for any bollywood flick, including that of Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots'. The opening collection from the US box office was around Rs 20 crore and similarly hefty figures have also come in from the UK, Australia and other overseas territories.

However, from Monday onwards the occupancy rate has started falling everywhere, which was not the case with Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots'. Another noteworthy factor about Shah Rukh Khan's 'My Name Is Khan' has been its relatively better showing in the overseas territory than in India. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan's film could not do any wonder at smaller centers and single screen theatres in the country.

However, this lack of support for Shah Rukh Khan's 'My Name Is Khan' was more than made up by strong support shown by the audiences at multiplexes of big cities and towns. It was due to this factor that the collections did not fall even after Mumbai territory had been adversely affected on Friday due to Sena's opposition.

In fact, of the total Rs 90.2 crore that came in from 'My Name Is Khan' success at the box office, around 47.2 crore is from the domestic circuit and rest from all over the world during the first weekend of three days. This three day of collection at the box office is slightly better that '3 Idiots'.

However, 'My Name Is Khan' has started showing drop from Monday onwards but Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots' remained upwards even on Monday and subsequent days leading it to collect around Rs 175 from its first week, which had gone up to Rs 300 crore within eighteen days of its release.

But if Monday trend of going down continues with 'My Name Is Khan' at the box office, it certainly will not be able to compete with Aamir Khan's staggering figure after two weeks or so. But it certainly will be able to get itself a hit status in bollywood where most flicks come crashing down at the box office like a house of cards.

'My Name Is Khan' stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the main lead and tries to depict the difficulties that a Muslim faces in the US after the bomb blast in New York on 9/11. The film tries to convey a message of peace and humanity to one and all through Shah Rukh Khan's Asperger's diseased character of Rizwan Khan. The flick has been directed by Karan Johar and also unites SRK and Kajol after a long time.

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
