Coat marshal

The clothes might make some men, but in King Khan's case, he definitely makes them, says Mitali Parekh

Ihate shopping. Gauri does it for me. I only have one suit — a black one," Shah Rukh Khan said in an interview many years ago, during his rise to the throne. Since then, Gauri Khan has reached Victoria Beckham status for her love of premium brands, but SRK seems to have added only a handful of ensembles to his wardrobe.

Not that it matters — his vitality overshadows his clothes. Like it should. And it probably keeps Gauri happy — all the money saved goes into her enviable collection of clutches. He has a few key pieces he keeps rehashing and carrying off with insouciance.

THE BANDHGALA

We can't help but envy the lack of strain he must feel before any formal event. His classic Indian formal jacket is up a few notches, thanks to the military buttons and slide pockets. Can any man go wrong with all black? SRK proves they cannot.

SPLASH OF RED

Lest you accuse him of being boring, Shah Rukh has this blood-red waistcoat he wears to rev things up a bit.All he has to do is wear it on top of his uniform of white/black T-shirt and jeans. Aspiring actors, take note — it's your job you should take seriously, not your clothes.

THE BLACK JACKET

Ablack jacket is a safe bet, but one with a bit of quirk (the metal fastenings at the collar) stands out. This one is probably given to him by Karan Johar, who created a men's line with designer Varun Bahl for the previous Couture Week.

Being SRK: The ultimate reality TV show

It's a job most Indians would die for — shadowing Shah Rukh Khan wherever he goes. For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living. "It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
