KKR will fare better from now on: Shah Rukh

Kolkata Knight Riders' owner Shah Rukh Khan yesterday admitted the team missed its former captain Sourav Ganguly but said it would perform "better" than it had done in previous years.

KKR's first match at the Eden Gardens this year received a lukewarm response, unlike in the past when the stadium was full for all games. One wouldn't know whether it was due to the absence of Ganguly, who went unsold in the player auction, or the post-World Cup hangover, but SRK was keen not to hurt the sentiments of the home fans. "No doubt we will miss Dada (Ganguly). He is always in our mind. Oh, definitely we will miss him," the Bollywood hero told MiD DAY.

But King Khan was quick to emphasise that the team would fare better than it had done in the past. "This new KKR team very much has the capability. It is very sound. I think this year, the new team will perform better," he said. It's not only the playing squad that wore a new look at the Eden yesterday. Shah Rukh arrived accompanied only by co-owner and actress, Juhi Chawla. There was no one else from the tinsel world to add glamour off the pitch!

The team did not have a new theme song for this year too, but Shah Rukh's reply was tongue in cheek. "This time we don't have money. That's why this time no new theme song for KKR," he said.

Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec
