Shahrukh Khan really wants his 'Ra. One' to boast of biggest and perhaps some of the most improbable action ever conceptualised and executed. So passionate is he with the idea of making 'Ra. One' cut across boundaries that he was unwilling to drop anything which had been earlier agreed upon on paper, even if it threatened to increase the duration of the film by 15 minutes.
"There was an action sequence that Anubhav Sinha had conceived for 'Ra. One'. While it did sound extremely interesting on paper and was also innovative in appeal as it had been never seen in any film before, whether Bollywood or Hollywood, Anubhav himself started doubting whether filming something like that would be feasible after all," says a source from the film's technical crew.
Around this time came a stage in the film's creative process when there was an option to reduce the duration of 'Ra. One' by around 15 minutes. Anubhav was more than happy to let go off this entire sequence and suggested the same to Shahrukh.
"While Anubhav felt that this sequence was not just going to be overtly expensive but also nearly impossible to execute, Shahrukh had already made up his mind. He told Anubhav in clear words that he would be mad if he let this opportunity go away from his hands," continues the source, "Shahrukh wanted Anubhav to be further creative in his approach and devise a way to film this sequence effectively."
It was also quite apparent by now that Anubhav wasn't really left with much choice but to go back to the drawing board. The sequence was eventually shot and much to Shahrukh's delight, it went as per expectations as well.
Though Anubhav chooses to keep mum over the incident and the actual content of the action sequence, he does admit that Shahrukh was particular about the said action sequence. "It truly belongs to 'never seen before' kind. When you would see the film, you would get it by yourself that which sequence had fascinated Shahrukh most and in process given me the toughest time of my life", smiles Anubhav, "Beyond that I don't wish to comment anything."
Fair enough Anubhav, we are willing to wait
