SRK pays surprise visit to FI

IT seems Shah Rukh Khan is getting more and more involved with the sporting world. At a time when Team Kolkata is fighting it out for a semi-final spot in the IPL, King Khan paid a surprise visit to the Sepang Formula One racing track a day before the Malaysian Grand Prix was scheduled there. And he caught up at the paddock with the only Indian driver on the circuit, Karun Chandhok.

It was the first time that King Khan had an opportunity to see a Formula One car up close. "He spent quite a bit of time with me actually," Karun told BT, adding, "He (SRK) had a good look at the car and asked me a lot of questions about the technical aspects of the sport. He then sat in my car and wanted to know all about the various buttons and functions of the steering wheel."

Being brand ambassador of a watch major in India, Karun had met SRK previously at some functions, but this was the first time they met on a racing track. Karun, driving for Hispania Racing team, was always a big fan of SRK's movies. But once he got to meet the star, he felt that the man himself is bigger than the star. "More than being a great actor, I think the Shah Rukh that you don't get to see on-screen is the most impressive thing about him. Though he's the biggest star in the country today, he's so humble. It's nice that he met me before the race," Karun says.

SRK also watched Saturday's qualifying race from the team garage. No wonder the Baazigar effect worked and Karun finished 15th the following day.

Being SRK: The ultimate reality TV show

It's a job most Indians would die for — shadowing Shah Rukh Khan wherever he goes. For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living. "It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
