India to take SRK detention issue strongly with US

BIKANER: India will "strongly" take up with the US the issue of detention of Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan at an American airport, civil aviationminister Praful Patel said on Sunday, asserting that such incidents were unacceptable.

"We will take the issue with the United States government strongly. Such incidents involving Indians due to their religion or nationality should not happen... we will not accept it," Patel told reporters here.

Khan was detained for two hours at Newark airport by immigration officials after his name matched with some names on a common checklist, sparking angry reactions in India.

Driving straight to the venue of a function at the luxury Trump Taj Mahal hotel in Atlantic City in tattered jeans, a white T-shirt, a brownish coat and a muffler since his baggage was yet to arrive, Khan told the audience that "I was treated shabbily just because I happened to have Khan as my last name."

Profusely apologising to his fans for arriving two hours late at the casino city of New Jersey for yesterday's function, 'King' Khan stunned the large number of Indian-Americans when he told them that he does not feel like stepping on the American soil any more, but it is the love and affection of millions of his fans in the US which would bring him to this country again and again.

He was released following the intervention of Indian Consulate officials.

The Bollywood actor was in the US to take part in the South Asian Carnival on the occasion of India's Independence Day. Khan had yesterday termed the incident as "uncalled for".

  1. Hi I am Himanshu, I am strongly disappointed the way US official treats a person on basis of their nationality or religion or on the basis of name flashing on their screen, I would say one should respect the other countries law and process they follow but when it is only valid for a particular religion and it is just because of the name flashed on their screen. I cant accept it and that is even when they themselves issued him the VISA and taken his finger prints.
Security is one of the common issue all over the world and every country have its own measure to deal with it but detaining a person like this. It is because of shahrukh's stature our government have looked into it and our media stepped into it but that's the same treatment US gives to the most of the people. I am a Hindu but still i am with you shahrukh.
I think we forget very easily how the continental airways person treated Dr. APJ abdul kalam at IGI.
Shahrukh I hope you will forget this soon and came back to your normal state.

    Good Luck
    Himanshu

  2. Hi-- mY name is Ashok Bhatt & live in Los Angeles.

The detention that happnned in Newark Airport was a stray incident. NY being such a big city to land & USA has so many celebrities as well as politicians entering usa. One cannot expect all officials who are trained in immigration to know so many world wide celebrities & faces.

Inidans feel disappointed & unhappy that is natural but why make such a big issue? I was disappointed when I read that SRK plans similar treatment to be given to Anjelina Joie? What kind of character do we all have?
Whta will be the impressiion of Indian Authorities, that they listen & ought for revenge for this one incident? Come on get to your senses. Please do not spoil the image of India, as all celebrities politicians will stop entering India & become some place like Australians.

Celebrities & politicians from South America/Europe/Asia & all over come to USA & many might have experienced such treatments, why single out SRK?

Gujarat CM Mr Narendra Modi was rejected Visa TO USA, no one made any issue or challenged the rules regulations of USA?

If SRK tries to return the same treatment to any USA celebrities, his image & fan club will be ruined & GOD FORGIVE HIM.

    Ashok

Being SRK: The ultimate reality TV show

It's a job most Indians would die for — shadowing Shah Rukh Khan wherever he goes. For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living. "It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec
