Karan Johar takes 'My Name Is Khan' to Cannes

Karan Johar Planning a grand global release for his next directorial venture 'My Name Is Khan', Karan Johar is at 62nd Cannes Film Festival, negotiating with foreign buyers.

The man knows that the film festival in Cannes can prove to be a big platform for his films. He promoted his Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna there a few years back, and now's he's taken two films, My Name Is Khan and director Rensil D'Silva's Jihad (both Johar's home productions) to Cannes. The festival has a special Market section and Karan will do active promotions to sell the international rights of the two movies to foreign buyers. The director is learnt to be in talks with some of the big foreign distributors and international studios.

Besides being a director, Karan has taken up production seriously. Dharma Productions has given various hits and its movies are well accepted overseas. So tapping a wider market at Cannes makes complete sense. However, this time Karan is also an official invitee to the festival. Directors Prem Soni and Imtiaz Ali have also been invited.

Though 'My Name Is Khan' is only 50 percent complete and Saif-Kareena starrer 'Jihad' is in post production stages, Karan is hopeful that things would surely work out. He has made a mini showreel of 'My Name Is Khan' to show at private meetings with the distributors. The movie has his old friend and favourite Shahrukh Khan along with his lucky charm Kajol .

But apart from watching, marketing his films and sharing ideas, Karan will walk the red carpet with many international film personalities at a gala event for a lifestyle brand.

"Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
