Shah Rukh Khan is iconic, says Tommy Hilfiger

India seems to be the destination du jour for the international jet-set — whether it's Katy Perry's wedding, Julia Roberts' celluloid spiritual yearnings or Pamela Anderson's 'reality' check.

Ask Tommy Hilfiger why India's the new haven for fashionistas, and the international designer explains, "India is an inspirational place for many people. Its bold, rich colours, ornate embroidery and beautiful textiles have an almost magnetic quality that I think a lot of people are drawn to."

Known for his preppy, rock n' roll style, Hilfiger says that if he weren't a designer, "I would be a musician! When I look back on all of the artists I've had the opportunity to work with, each one brings their own vision and personality to their music and look. This is what I love most about the union of fashion and music. Lately I've been listening to the Strokes; they have a unique sound and personality, and they are incredible performers!"

Celebrating 25 years in the fashion biz with a coffee table tome on his life,Hilfiger shows no signs of fashion fatigue.

"Throughout the years I've been able to bring my greatest sources of joy and inspiration into my work, and this keeps my passion for designing and fashion alive. I love music and film. I love sports. I love to travel. And I love my children. They are a constant source of inspiration and help keep my feet on the ground."

Lastly, ask him if there's any one Bollywood personality he'd love to outfit? "There are so many fantastic Bollywood personalities to dress!" he says playing safe, before adding, "Shah Rukh Khan is an iconic yet modern actor."

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
