Birthday Bumps: Shah Rukh Khan

First break in television

First break in television
We remember the high points of SRK's glittering life till date... In 1988, Shah Rukh played the popular character of a military soldier (Abhimanyu Rai) going under training in a serial titled 'Fauji'. This was his first tryst with television. And soon thereafter he was offered a role in the serial 'Circus'.

Debut in movies

Debut in movies
Shah Rukh moved to Mumbai from Delhi in 1991. And the next year itself he bagged his first role as a supporting hero in the film 'Deewana' which stared Rishi Kapoor and the late Divya Bharti.

SRK in negative roles
Unlike other mainstream actors, Shah Rukh Khan took the risk of doing negative roles in the very beginning of his career. His performance in the negative shade in 'Baazigar' was hugely appreciated. He also played the villian's role in other movies like 'Darr' and 'Anjaam'.

Entry into the Yash Raj camp
Shah Rukh Khan became the newest heartthrob in the industry after playing the character of Raj opposite Kajol in YRF's 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'.

Actor turns producer
SRK is known to be a very ambitious person. He forayed into producing films with 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' in the year 2000. His production company is called Red Chillies Entertainment. The company also has its own visual effects studio known as Red Chillies VFX.

Oscar nomination
Another Red Chillies Entertainment film, 'Paheli', directed by Amol Palekar was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars in 2002.

Back to television
In the year 2007, SRK reappeared on the small screen to host the third season of the popular game show, 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' which was earlier hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. He also hosted another game show called 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai?'

In a different mood
Shah Rukh Khan played the role of a serious and dedicated hockey coach in 'Chak De India' (2007). It is this movie that won him many accolades for his acting skills. In fact, Yash Chopra (producer of the film) went on record to say that he found SRK's acting in this movie the best till date. From doing many cliched romantic roles, Shah Rukh was applauded for accepting and justifying the role of Kabir in 'Chak De India'. He later did Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Swades'.

Entry into cricket
The Indian Premier League launched in 2007 had Shah Rukh Khan a sport lover explore a new business venture. He bought a cricket team and then named them 'Kolkata Knight Riders'.

When the Khans fight...
It is said that friendship is temporary in the film industry. Once good friends, Shah Rukh and Salman had a huge row at Katrina Kaif's birthday party on 16th July, 2008. It reportedly started with a casual conversation which turned ugly. So much so, that the actors were almost about to get into physical violence. And since then, they have not been on talking terms.

Panga with the Bachchan family
For some time Shah Rukh and Amitabh Bachchan were also not on talking terms with each other. They were offended by the comments made in public by both for each other. SRK reportedly also had a huge fight with Aishwarya Rai when Salman destroyed the sets of SRK's film 'Chalte Chalte' while the shooting was in progress. The movie was then re-shot with Rani Mukerji in the lead role. It is also said that once thick friends SRK and Farah Khan have also been going through some trouble.

Friends and family
SRK has always maintained that his children, Aryan and Suhana and wife, Gauri are the most precious people in his life. Family friend Karan Johar, has always been by SRK's side. Karan said in an interview that Shah Rukh's kids will one day inherit all his movies when they grow up.

Upcoming projects
Shah Rukh Khan is currently in Berlin, shooting for his upcoming film 'Don 2' with Farhan Akhtar. And his other movie slotted for release is 'Ra.One' where he plays a super hero.

Being SRK: The ultimate reality TV show

It's a job most Indians would die for — shadowing Shah Rukh Khan wherever he goes. For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living. "It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
