Eid event to feature Ajram, Shah Rukh

Dubai: Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan will get jiggy with American rapper 50 Cent and Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram along with a host of Arab, Iranian, Indian and Filipino performers at an Eid event in Dubai, Gulf News can exclusively reveal.

To be held on the sidelines of a consumer fair called Shoppiesta, the five-day event at Meydan will kick off on August 31 and feature two concerts every night.

Shopping kiosks, adventure sports arcades and a host of other entertainment and lifestyle attractions will also be included, said organisers.

"We're aiming for the masses. The majority of the tickets are going to be very well priced, starting at Dh40 for the concert and Dh5 for entry to the fair," said Krishna Ramanathan, the managing director of Citron, which owns Shoppiesta.

"This is not an elitist event. The event will feature all the things Dubai does best, from adventure sports, shopping and leisure activities during the five-day public holiday period all under one roof and all at very affordable prices."

Final night

The first night of the concert will be an Arabic night with Lebanese singers Ajram and Melheim Zein taking the stage while the second night on September 1 will see Filipino pop and R&B band South Border perform followed by girl band Mocha Girls.

Day three will feature Iranian diva Googoosh and Day 4 Indian musicians Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan.

The final night on September 4 promises to be the biggest with the first performances kicked off by 50 Cent and followed by Khan who will be joined by a 70-member entourage including actresses Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor.

Ticket details for the concerts will be made available next week. Read tabloid! on Wednesday for more details

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec
