Shah Rukh Khan: I am ok if I am not reborn as a famous actor

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who turned 48, said he wants to work for the upliftment of society.

"From this birthday onwards at least till two years I want to do work for upliftment of people who don't have life as good as me. I want to do something good in small little bits and pieces. I have told people in my team let's go and help needy people in a bigger way," SRK told reporters here.

When asked if he wants to open an NGO, he said, "If I open an NGO I can't give time. My work is to give funds. I would help more NGOs rather than having my own."

His children wished him at midnight and the actor says that since they are growing, he wants to spend more time with them. "Looking forward to spending a lot of quality time with my kids. I feel I need to spend little more time with them," he adds.

Like every year, hundreds of fans gathered outside his residence 'Mannat' to wish the actor on his birthday.

Shah Rukh said he was "overwhelmed" on seeing the number of people coming to wish him every year.

He waved at his fans and did a small jig for them, who had been braving the police and his bodyguards. The crowd was bursting crackers, played drum beats, kept calling out his name again and again.

"It feels great that so many people come here to wish me every year. I wish I could meet them, but if I do so, it will be all unorganised. I thank everyone for the love and wish them good health, success and happiness," he said.

"The small little things like these matter the most. Not many people get to see so many people around their house to celebrate birthday. Not Many people get the love that I am getting and I am thankful to god for this," he said.

Being SRK: The ultimate reality TV show

For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living. "It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
