'Genius' Shahrukh knows what the audience wants

Not many are aware that Shahrukh Khan knew his 'Always Kabhi Kabhi' director Roshan Abbas since their theatre days together in Delhi. More than two decades back, Roshan was Shahrukh's junior in theatre and the first time director has been impressed with the 'baadshah' of Bollywood ever since then.

"There are two things that I find incredibly tremendous about this man. One is his focus and another is his creativity," RJ turned filmmaker shares his own reasons behind such high regard that he holds for Shahrukh Khan, "He is someone who always looks for what audience wants. This isn't something which is coming to him today; he has been like that forever."

Narrating an example of his creativity, he adds, "I remember how after he became a star, we did some chat shows together. At times we didn't even have a script in hand but he still managed to do things impromptu. I used to ask him a few things and he used to reply to them in his characteristic funny manner."

The same creativity ran into the making of 'Always Kabhi Kabhi' as well. Once the script was locked, cast finalised and production plans put together, work also began on how to present the film to the audience.

"Shahrukh came up with some brilliant ideas at the very inception of the film," says Roshan, "He is a genius."

With Giselle Monteiro, Ali Fazal, Zoa Morani and Satyajeet Dubey in principal roles and also starring Satish Shah, Lilette Dubey, Vijay Raaz, Mukesh Tiwari and Manoj Joshi, 'Always Kabhi Kabhi' releases all over on 17th June.

"Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things." Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
