Shahrukh Khan next Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan and Golmaal director Rohit Shetty are finally doing their first project together titled Chennai Express.

According to reports, Rohit Shetty who was working on the remake of Gulzar's Angoor has been put on the back-burner for Chennai Express.

A source reveals, "Since it's not easy to get Shahrukh Khan's dates, Rohit (Shetty) felt it was important to have another script ready. If the script of Angoor remake didn't shape up to their liking, it would take a while before they came up with another concept for a film with Shahrukh Khan."

The source also adds that Shahrukh Khan was impressed with the idea at the first narration of Chennai Express. It is said that after Shahrukh Khan said yes to Chennai Express, the Angoor remake was put on hold. Our source informs further, "Shah Rukh has a romantic film under the direction of Yash Chopra apart from Don 2. In a way, this is a break from action films."

Buzz is that, instead of Kareena Kapoor who has now been finalized to play the lead, SRK was initially keen to have Katrina Kaif as his leading lady. Apparently, he was miffed with Bebo for prioritising Bodyguard over Ra.One.

However, Rohit felt Kareena Kapoor, who has also worked in his Golmaal series would suit the character better.

"Considering the action-comedy element of the film, the female character is quite a firebrand. No one else except Kareena could suit the part," says the source.

Talking about the fate of the Angoor remake, the source said that the rights of the film are now with Rohit who is said to be getting Rs 12 crore as his fees for Chennai Express.

Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive"). For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telec...
