Shah Rukh Khan reportedly was the top tax payer among actors for 2007-2008 with 34 crores in income taxes paid. A significant chunk of the actor's income is believed to be from the big payouts off the television shows like KBC and Paanchvi Paas the actor had been working for Star TV for, emphasizing the growing economic clout of television.
Other major tax payers among actors included Aamir Khan (4.7 crores) and Abhishek Bachchan (5.5 crores).
The year before, for 2006, the top taxpayer among actors was Hrithik Roshan. And for 2005, the top taxpayer was Amitabh Bachchan.
The highest tax payer in the country overall reportedly paid Rs. 121 crores in taxes last year.
